There are several Centers affiliated with the CEM program, created for the purpose of conducting research, collaborating with industry partners, and augmenting the main curriculum of the program.
CIFE – Center for Integrated Facility Engineering
Since 1988, CIFE has pioneered innovations in the use of IT in the AEC industry to develop their products, organizations and processes. CIFE is a joint center between the departments of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) and Computer Science (CS).
The CIFE mission is to be the world's premier academic research center for Virtual Design and Construction of Architecture - Engineering - Construction (AEC) industry projects.
Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) is the use of multi-disciplinary performance models of design-construction projects, including the Product (i.e., facilities), Work Processes and Organization of the design - construction - operation team in order to support business objectives.
CRGP – Collaboratory for Research on Global Projects
The Collaboratory for Research on Global Projects (“CRGP”) is a shared undertaking between Stanford University, partner universities, private industry and government affiliates, to advance the science and practice of planning and implementing global projects.
CRGP serves as Stanford University’s primary forum for research on the organization and management of global projects. This research will focus on studying how organizational and institutional parameters that so far have been difficult to quantify impact overall project efficiency and outcomes.
CRGP’s research focuses on the following five areas:
- Understanding Generalizable Challenges and Strategies of Global Projects
- Governance of Global Infrastructure Development Projects
- Predicting the Involvement of NGOs, Political Organizations and Interest Groups in Global Infrastructure Development Projects
- Internationalization Strategies of Global Project Companies
- Computational Simulation of Global Project Organizations
